I was showing a friend of mine how some products work , He is a reviews oriented buyer ( he bought Beyond Clay because all the reviews he read said it was the best product since Sliced Bread ) , he is also a Meguiars nut swinger ...

On to the small story , I was showing different products and someone we both know showed up, and said I don't know why you need high dollar waxes to polish the paint on your cars . You can buff with Straight water . After I quit laughing , and he proceeded to say he buffed many freshly painted cars with straight water . I can't believe some people say that have no clue but pretend to .........

Your thoughts ................

Perhaps you can direct him to a more higher level of reviews section perhaps !
Although sometimes it's just the best to leave things alone

You either continue laughing. Roll on the floor a bit to show him your serious. Perhaps even roll some tears.

OR

You tell him how much your stuff costs, and how much you get for doing a car. Explain to him that he can be a very rich man very quick. As this is a secret unknown to mankind, and he might just have a miracle on his hands.
(p.s. if you choose the last option, please tell me his name. I'd like to avoid him at all cost :D).

Shame on you guys... you CAN buff with plain water, but only by machine.  :dunce: :D The pad does the hard work and obviously cut is minimised, but water acts as a lubricant. It won't perhaps be as good as a modern compound or glaze, but it is possible and some old school bodyshop guys do it. The reason he's a fool is if he dismisses the alternatives. But machine polishing with the right pad/technique with plain old H20 is possible

But ( hopefully ) almost as exstinct as the dodo itself I hope.
Not making a step forward is staying in the same place .... not something you really want to do in life

My laughter was pointing out the fact that yes, it probably is possible but WHY??? when dedicated polishes are designed specifically for the job.
I mean I could probably wipe my backside with a leaf from a tree but tend to opt for the tool designed for the job, but I'm just a little wild like that

you certainly could with the water round here, its mostly calcium with a bit of H2O thrown in to make it wet! one lump or two?

on a serious note, presumably it would act like spit shining.
