Want to keep the new car shiny! |
|
Hey all,
In about two weeks I should be getting my new Mazda 2 sport, and having seen other black cars, they can look dirty really quickly.
Haggling for the car feeling I was getting close to their limit, they offered this Diamond Brite finish, so I thought why not...
Was this a mistake or is this actually a good service? If I remember correctly it comes with this maintenance kit, should I ebay this straight away and get in some Dodo magic?
I would also like to ask for some hints and tips on which products should give good results to get a nice liquidy look and to keep it as long as possible, as I'm completely new to this, the only things I "detailed" before were heavy machinery used with scaffolding and using those methods (rotating metal brush and spray paint for example...) won't work very well on a car I don't think .
Cheers!

You missed the clay step, which even new cars need.

correct but he's having diamond brite applyed so claying will damage or remove it totally which is why i left it out he may aswell get the most out of it seeing as he's agreed to it, ive just suggested a good maintanence kit to start off with, maybe he could get a clay kit in the future when he's learnt more about detailing etc

Cheers guys! I will start shopping soon
So the diamond brite isn't as long lasting as they say in the flyer or the salesman's pitch.
Which I didn't really believe in the first place anyway, but hey, got it for free, as long as it isn't going to damage the car and gives me some extra time to practise I'm fine with it.
Nice breakdown of products Dan, very useful seeing how much there is to pick from :p
Would you recommend to get initial dirt off by using a snow lance before starting with the shampooing?

I've never heard of Diamond Brite, must not sell it in the USA or something.

Diamond brite is a well known main dealer sales gimmicky sealant that does work to a degree, your right in your advise Dan.
If you were wanting to strip the car right back then yes do clay and wash with a strong mix of some heavier shampoo like carplan triple wax car shampoo as this will interfear with the diamond brite and weaken and or remove it or you could take it to a hand car wash and they will remove it with 1 wash ( fact )
Here is a reasonable wash guide
http://www.detailingparadise.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1725
2 x washmitts of the lambswool variety
2 buckets ( grit gaurds do help )
Born to be mild and sour power shampoo
Drying towel - i use miracle dryers or AS waffle towels
Redmist tropical ( as I call dummies edition, doesnt dry out so fast )
Quality microfibre towels ( poorboys dmt or dodo fantatsic fur )
For wax top up intervals try Lime prime lite as Dan said and for black a killer look imo is rainforest rub, dodo's flagship in my eyes, very first production wax and excellent still!
Get the wash regime down to an art first then carry on from there.

Thanks again, never realised there was so much to keeping your car looking good .
Have to admit I can see this getting quite an addiction!
Also working in the gaming business it is great to see a forum, for once, without flaming or ranting
Not sure what I'm looking forward to most now, driving the car or keeping it shiny in the weekends....

your not wrong there Jorn it is very addictive, i got addicted to it after a few months into my training 15yrs ago!!! now i dont think theres a word that could describe how i feel about, now dodojuice is here its made me worse
dont worry detailers get passionate about things sometimes and have a bit of a rant!! can be funny
driving your new car will be great but keeping it clean and shiney greater, you wont be able to resist getting the juice out for another session

Those were very long 2 weeks, especially when they turned into 3...
But finally have the car, have to say it looked nice on delivery, the crystal brite had a better effect than I expected, but I bet it will look a lot better after applying some dodo juice!
Will give the car a good wash this weekend and hopefully the purple haze get's here in time (doubt it though with my luck the last few weeks...) so I can add some wax and shine.

Yup I will when I finally get to it...
So yeah... got a speeding ticket and gf wanted me to wait getting the dodo juice until that was paid, *grumble* but ok I waited a bit...
So today I got paid, about to spend some time shopping when I got to work, already thinking about the weekend, finally being able to slap that juice on.
Getting closer to the car I noticed something was off, but still half asleep it didn't really register until getting closer and seeing curls of metal/paint on the side of the car yup, a nice big scratch right down to the metal on the driver's door... and as if that wasn't enough the bastard(s) added two/three more on the hood, all of them showing bare metal.
Sooo... does anyone know any good body shops around Leamington Spa?

Guess I will still place to order tonight to at least keep all the other panels in good shape.
So pissed off, why do people do this, I get frustrated from time to time (like now) but I don't take it out on someone's property...
Would like to take it out on whoever did it though...
Sorry for going on but need to vent a bit :p don't want to start shouting when there's an annoying customer on the phone
Would anyone have an idea of how much it would cost approximately to respray hood and one door?

You had someone vandalise your car Jorn?
There are so many sad people out there that get a kick out of damaging others property, its sickening.
having a door painted will more than likely need to be faded into the wing and rear quarter, round here it would be anywhere between £300 - £400 done to a high standard.
